Organization Staff and Volunteer Training
The Trauma & Distress Advocacy Training Program for Autism & Developmental Disabilities is an 8-hour, culturally competent mental health basic education and awareness training program. Faculty, staff and parents who complete Trauma & Distress Advocacy training will be able to:
- IDENTIFY signs and symptoms of mental distress in children with autism;
- ASSESS children using a ‘spectrum-sensitive’ biopsychosocial model and employ ‘spectrum-sensitive’ crisis de-escalation techniques and services;
- TRIAGE and refer children with mental distress to appropriate services, particularly those in danger of hurting themselves or others.
- SUPPORT children with mental distress using ongoing basic mental health support skills and other short and/or long-term intervention and prevention techniques to promote mental health;
